| Another Z Specialties exclusive part. We have these bushings custom made for us, out of a high tech polymer that is extremely durable. This product has been tried and proven on the race track for many years on other vehicles. Once you install these you should never have to install another set of shift bushings into your z. POSTED PRICE IS FOR A PAIR OF BUSHINGS. These bushings are temporarily on back order. If you'd like to be put on a list so that you're notified as soon as they're available again, just place an order like usual. We'll change your status to "Part on Back Order". As soon as we have them in stock again, we'll notify you and proceed with the order. We won't charge your credit card until the parts are in stock. The original round shift bushings are made out of nylon and they just don't seem to last, especially if you're a hard shifter. I've replaced them in cars that had as few as 40,000 miles on them, but they usually wear out around the 75K + area. When they wear out, they usually fragment into a thousand pieces, and then your shifter gets very sloppy, and in many cases the shifter starts rattling like you have a rattle snake in your transmission. We identified this problem and decided to come up with the perfect solution. Originally we considered using delrin, but it is a rather brittle product and I didn't feel that it would hold up for long periods of time. After doing a lot of research on base products we found this particular product to be way more durable than delrin and many other products as well. These bushings should never wear out and to date we haven't had anyone be able to wear them out. We even have a few customers that drag race their z's on a regular basis and the bushings in their shifters are holding up just fine. These bushings do have to be lightly pressed into the shift tower. We recommend using a vise to press them into the tower. DO NOT EVER POUND OR TAP ON THE BUSHINGS. Then apply a light coating of synthetic grease and install them back into your car. On some cars it may be neccessary to lightly sand the exposed sides of the bushings after they are installed in the tower because they won't slide into the transmission shift ears. It won't require much sanding if you have to do it, and this can give you a little more clearance so you can slide the tower down into place and slide the pivot pin through. There is a variable in the tolerances on the inside diameter of the shift tower and also on the shift ears on the transmission. That is why they require a little sanding sometimes. If you've put a newer style trans into your PL510, either 4 spd or 5 spd then these bushings will fit just fine. They will also fit all of the 4 cylinder cars and trucks from 76 and newer that use the side pin style shifter. We're going to be putting some pics on our website of the different types of shifters for these vehicles. Until then feel free to send us an e-mail request for the pics if you can't figure out which type you need. Last update 06/11 |
