Bolts right onto your Z like a stock alternator! You do not have to modify any brackets to install them on your car. You must purchase a special belt to use with these alternators. They replace the stock belt. We found this belt to last significantly longer vs the stock style. Stock belts WILL fail prematurely and possibly cause damage to the alternator pulley. That is not covered under warrantee. '70-83 Datsun 240/260/280Z & 280ZX! Will also fit Datsun 210, 510, 610, 710, 810, 200SX, Maxima, and the 620/720 pickups and we even sell a version for the Datsun roadster!! These are internally regulated units and bolt right onto your z or other Datsun just like a stock alternator. For the externally regulated vehicles, all you have to do is unplug your voltage regulator and tape off the connection. All stock Datsuns use an external regulator up through 1977. No diodes to splice in, no wire looms to build, no expensive custom brackets to buy, and no pulley modifications to do. When we say plug'n'play, we mean exactly that. They are just too simple too install. They can produce 50+ amps at idle and kick in about 500 rpm. At peak output (which is 2500 rpm) they produce at least 105 amps constant and can surge to 125 amps when neccessary. To dispell a common wives tail about high output alternators, these alternators WILL NOT cause damage to your older cars wiring. If you wire in power drawing accessories and don't do it correctly, then that can cause damage to your cars wiring, not these alternators. All Datsuns including z's in the 70's and early 80's need these H.O. alts. Not neccessarily because of the higher than stock maximum output, but because of the brown out at idle that all z's have. At idle the stock alternators cannot handle the load if you have most of your accessories on. In the case of the 240's and 260's they don't need hardly any accessory turned on to get this phenomenon. The stock Z alts from 70-83 produce between 15 and 20 amps at idle depending on the year, and your car needs between 25 and 40 amps if all your accessories are turned on regardless of the rpm. Brown outs cause premature wear on wiper motors, heater fan motors, and stereos, and many other parts on your car or truck. On many of these cars the wipers and turn signals slow down at idle even without any other accessories turned on. These scenarios are completely wiped out by our H.O. alts. In the case of the 4 cylinder vehicles, all of them up through 1977 only have a 35 amp maximum output alternator and they can only produce about 14 amps at idle so they are even worse. These alts will fit all the A and L series 4 cylinder engine vehicles, although on some cars or trucks you may have to replace or modify the upper bracket. NO CORE CHARGE IS REQUIRED ON THESE UNITS. 99% of the time, these are brand new units, not rebuilt. While we usually have these alts in stock, if we ever happen to be out of stock on these items it usually only takes us a day or two to get more. YOU CANNOT USE A STOCK BELT ON THESE ALTERNATORS, THEY WILL NOT LAST. You must use a special application belt. If you have an electric water pump we'll need to know that too. Be sure to let us know the year of your engine, specifically the year or model of the crank pulley. For the correct part number of the belt for our z look in our belt section under H.O. Alternator and choose your model. The belt you use depends on the crank pulley that you're using, not neccessarily the year of your z or zx. These belts are available just about anywhere in the US. !!!!!!!!!!!!!Be advised that we now have a new pulley size on these alternators which should make the belts last significantly longer, and will also give you a little more adjustment out of the adjusting arm. If you bought an alternator from us before November 15, 2009 and you have a 240 z crank pulley on your engine then you will need a different belt than the one that we have listed. If that is the case just give us a call and we can give you the belt number if you lost it. The 280 z and zx belts will still be the same. If you do have the old pulley size and you would like to change to the new improved size then send us an e-mail request or call us to order one. We will be adding the pulley to our online store very soon. This unit carries a 12 month 12K mile warrantee and come with easy to understand Z-specific installation instructions. Shipping in the lower 48 states varies from $22.00-$28.00 for this alternator .
