| This is the speedometer pinion or cog gear that goes in the transmission. These gears are accessible from the outside of the gearbox, but it does take a special tool to change the gear itself once you've removed the gear/housing assembly. All speedo gears for these cars are color coded. This particular gear is yellow and has 16 teeth. It is for use with the 3.36 gear ratio that came stock in all z's from 70-74. Note: if you change your tire height from stock then you should also change your speedo pinion gear to compensate. Changing tire height is just like changing the gear ratio in your differential, it does affect the accuracy of your speedometer. This part has gone obsolete in the US and we don't have any of these in stock new. We've done a partial search so far and we can still supposedly get them from Japan but the cost has more than doubled. More bad news, when we order something direct from Japan, it takes between 4 weeks and 3 months for us to get them. No way to know how long any closer than that. No way to expedite either. We're checking with other sources to see if we can find a new supplier at a better price. We'll add updates to this listing as we get more information. Last update 05/11 |
