In some cases you may have to replace or refurbish the rear springs as well, to bring the car back up to stock ride height. The original shocks in the 280 zx were oil shocks. This caused a lot of squatting on acceleration. The stock shocks started to fail after about 25,000 original miles. Then the cars started squatting even more. This eventually causes the rear springs to collapse which gives the car a bad ride height, and severe negative camber, which creates some potentially dangerous handling problems. It also causes your rear tires to wear out on the inside much faster than the rest of the tire. New KYB shocks will raise your cars ride height between 1/2" to 1 inch depending on the condition of your rear springs. If your car needs more than 1" of lift in the back then you need to replace or refurbish your existing springs. Only the original factory springs can be refurbished.
