| If your z or any other vehicle sits for long period of 4 weeks or longer, then you need to take some special precautions to save your battery, or it can and will go bad from sitting. ANY battery can and will go bad from sitting. Gel cell batterys go bad faster than liquid batteries if left unattended. Gel cells can go flat after only 3 weeks sometimes. If this happens too many times on just about any battery, they can go bad and not accept a charge anymore. Keep your batteries in tip top shape and this way they will usually last a lot longer than the warrantee period. We now offer 3 different versions of battery tenders, to keep your batteries in tip top shape. See listings. This particular unit is our top of the line model. It can hook up to 2 different vehicles at the same time if you have the need, or it can do a single battery. It switches automatically to a 28 day monitoring. It has a built in timer for battery protection. It is spark free and has a polarity protection circuit in it as well. This particular model has a 3 LED indicator display and charges the battery at a rate of 900 m/A. It works on either a 6 volt or a 12 volt system that you set manually. You can use these units on any type of vehicle that has a battery in it. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, jet skis, lawn mowers, tractors, etc. This unit can actually save you money by extending the life of your batteries as well as making sure that your vehicle will start ok after long periods of sitting. We usually carry these units in stock at all times, but if we happen to be out of stock, please allow an extra week for delivery. Another thing we recommend doing if your car is going to be sitting for more than 3 months at a time is to put Seafoam gas treatment in your gas tank, start the vehicle up and run it for a minute or two, then shut if off. The Seafoam will help prevent the fuel from separating and/or breaking down. It can save your fuel for up to 2 years. Modern fuel, (especially gasahol) starts separating as soon as 3 weeks, and starts breaking down as soon as 3 months after you park your vehicle. FYI, gasahol is very bad for cars, especially for cars that sit between uses or get parked outside. We will be adding a writeup to our website soon about the damage that it does to vehicles of any kind. We do have a link available right now on gasahol damage to carburated vehicles. We recommend using Interstate batteries. They also make Optima gel cell batteries. If you can't find a local Interstate dealer, keep in mind that Interstate makes batteries for Costco and Les Schwab as well. Same battery with a different label on it. We've found a lot of other brand name batteries (but not all) have a tendency to sulphate and leak acid on your car. Keeping your charging and starting systems in good shape is extremely important. This starts at the battery and the battery connections. They must be kept clean, tight at all times, and corrosion free. Last update 02/11 |
