105amp High Output Alternator

 105amp High Output Alternator

Bolts right onto your Z like a stock alternator! You do not have to modify any brackets to install them on your car. You must purchase a special belt to use with these alternators. They replace the stock belt. We found this belt to last significantly longer vs the stock style. Stock belts WILL fail prematurely and possibly cause damage to the alternator pulley. That is not covered under warrantee. We recommend going to the polished turnbuckle adjusting arm that we sell, but that is not mandatory. See listing. The turnbuckle will replace the stock top adjusting brackett, and will give you even more adjustment than before. One thing that I do stress when using these alternators is that the belt MUST be kept tight at all times, otherwise you'll overheat the belt and render it useless as with any belt. ALWAYS check a new belt for tightness after driving it for the first day and tighten as needed.

'70-83 Datsun 240/260/280Z & 280ZX! Will also fit Datsun 210, 510, 610, 710, 810, 200SX, Maxima, and the 620/720 pickups and we even sell a version for the Datsun roadster!! These alts will fit all the A and L series 4 cylinder engine vehicles, although on some cars or trucks you may have to replace or modify the upper bracket. Note: We now sell an adaptor harness that connects the T plug in to the new HO alternator allowing your alternator warning light (idiot light) to function. See listing.

These are internally regulated units and bolt right onto your z or other Datsun just like a stock alternator. For the externally regulated vehicles, all you have to do is unplug your voltage regulator and tape off the connection. All stock Datsuns use an external regulator up through 1977. You don't have to use the T plug in that goes in the back of the stock alternator either. NOTE: WE NOW HAVE A NEW ADAPTOR HARNESS AVAILABLE IF YOU'D LIKE TO USE YOUR CHARGE LIGHT. SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS OR SEE LISTING. If you don't want to use your charge light then just tape off your T connector and lay it off to the side. No diodes to splice in, no wire looms to build, no expensive custom brackets to buy, and no pulley modifications to do. When we say plug'n'play, we mean exactly that. They are just too simple too install. They can produce 50+ amps at idle and kick in about 500 rpm. At peak output (which is 2500 rpm) they produce at least 105 amps constant and can surge to 125 amps when neccessary. To dispell  a common wives tail about high output alternators, these alternators WILL NOT cause damage to your older cars wiring. If you wire in power drawing accessories and don't do it correctly, then THAT can cause damage to your cars wiring, not these alternators. All Datsuns including z's in the 70's and early 80's need these H.O. alts. Not neccessarily because of the higher than stock maximum output, but because of the brown out at idle that all z's have. At idle the stock alternators cannot handle the load if you have most of your accessories on. In the case of the 240's and 260's they don't need hardly any accessory turned on to get this phenomenon. The stock Z alts from 70-83 produce between 10 and 25 amps at idle depending on the year of the alternator and your idle speed. A stock z car needs between 25 and 40 amps if all your accessories are turned on regardless of the rpm. Add more power sucking devices and those numbers are increased accordingly. Brown outs cause premature wear on wiper motors, heater fan motors, and stereos, and many other parts on your car or truck. On many of these cars the wipers and turn signals slow down at idle even without any other accessories turned on. These scenarios are completely eliminated by our H.O. alts.

In the case of the 4 cylinder vehicles, all of them up through 1977 only have a 35 amp maximum output alternator. The 70-71 240's also only had a 35 amp alternator originally. Those alternators can only produce about 11 amps at idle so they are even worse than the ones mentioned earlier.  We also sell another version of the same alternator that produces up to 120/140 amps. See listing.

NO CORE CHARGE IS REQUIRED ON THESE UNITS. 99.9% of the time, these are brand new units, not rebuilt. While we usually have these alts in stock, if we ever do happen to be out of stock on these alts it usually only takes us a day or two to get more. Then we have to cut the cases for clearance so it will be a direct bolt in for you. This can take a couple of days as well.  Because we are the sole outlet for these alternators, and we sell a lot of them, the manufacturer gives us a very low discounted price and we pass it onto you. MSRP is 450.00 for these new units so the price we sell them at is just about half of that.

ONCE AGAIN, YOU CANNOT USE A STOCK BELT ON THESE ALTERNATORS, THEY WILL NOT LAST. You must use a special application belt. The belts are readily available in most towns and cities if you ever need another one. You won't have to buy a replacement belt from us in the future. That info will be provided automatically when you receive your alternator and belt from us.  If you have an electric water pump we'll need to know that too, that will take a different number belt. Be sure to let us know the year of your engine, specifically the year or model of the crank pulley. For the correct part number of the belt for our z look in our belt section under H.O. Alternator and choose your model. The belt you use depends on the crank pulley that you're using, not neccessarily the year of your z or zx. These belts are available just about anywhere in the US.

For the 73-74 z's in the US that still use the electric fuel pump in the back, the trigger lead is fed by the T connector on the back of the alternator. If you want that to work you will need to purchase a fuel pump activation kit from Holley that works off of oil pressure or read the next paragraph below for details. That only applies to the stock 73-74 z's with the V3 electric pump modification. No other years are adversely affected and if you've disconnected that system already then it won't be a problem.

WE NOW HAVE A NEW ACCESSORY AVAILABLE FOR THESE ALTERNATORS FOR AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE. WE NOW SELL A PLUG IN ADAPTOR PIGTAIL SO THAT YOU CAN USE THE "T" PLUG IN WITH OUR HO ALTS. THIS ALLOWS YOU TO STILL USE THE CHARGE LIGHT FEATURE ALSO KNOWN AS THE "IDIOT LIGHT" ON YOUR CAR OR TRUCK. THIS ADAPTOR UNIT WILL ONLY WORK (without mods) ON ALTERNATORS SOLD AFTER 09/01/2011. On the units purchased before that date, you'd have to dig the silicone out of the black rectangular plug in that is on the side, and clean the pin connectors thoroughly. Then the adaptor harness should work just fine. SEE LISTING.

This unit carries a 12 month 12K mile warrantee and come with easy to understand Z-specific installation instructions. If we happen to be out of stock on these alternators it doesn't usually take us more than a couple of days to get another shipment in.

Shipping in the lower 48 states varies from $24.00-$30.00 for this alternator depending on where you are at . We only ship these alternators UPS unless we're shipping outside the USA. Then we can ship them postal. Only check UPS for shipping these alternators though. We'll work out the difference in shipping (if any) when we process your order.
